Weight loss tip 3 moderate drinking may help you with weight loss

The connection between moderate drinking and avoiding heart disease is pretty much old news to most of us at this point.

But now, experts are saying that those of us who have 1-2 drinks a few times a week are less likely to become obese than non drinkers.

Finally! A Weight Loss "Do and Don't" that we can have some fun with!

Not too much fun though.

Those of us who consume 4 or more drinks daily are a whopping 46% more likely to be obese, research says. The connection between moderate drinking and avoiding heart disease is pretty much old news to most of us at this point.

This new information was based on a study of over 8,000 people conducted by Dr. James Rohrer of the Mayo Clinic and Dr. Ahmed Arif, from the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center.

"We don't want to give people the wrong impression"...says Rohrer..."We certainly don't want to recommend that nondrinkers become drinkers just to control their weight".

If you're a non-drinker---don't panic.

The odds for moderate drinkers are only .73% better than nondrinkers for staying thin. The main message here is that a few drinks consumed socially isn't anything to worry about if that's your M. O.

Some experts don't completely agree with these findings. Dr. David L. Katz, Director of Yale University's Prevention Research Center, says that the slight reduciton in obesity risk may very well be attributed to additional healthy behaviors unrelated to drinking.

"Many health-conscious people have a daily drink because of the widely touted health benefits; it may be a constellation of behaviors in such people that lead to weight control"...says Katz..."This would produce the appearance of a weight-control benefit from moderate drinking, but it would be illusory."

Well here's my 2 cents on the matter:

As mentioned above, I feel that the primary takeaway from this research is that responsible, moderate drinkers need not be alarmed at the implications of drinking on their weight loss.

Though the overall trend presented here makes sense to me, I am a slight bit skeptical of the percentages given for risk levels.

My suspiscion comes from the fact that body mass index, or BMI, was used as a measure of obesity. As I mention in my program, BMI is not the best determination of true obesity. Its measurements, though useful, are not accurate enough to be followed to the letter---certainly not for coming up with percentages in a medical research study.

So if you choose to drink, do it moderately and responsibly. And if you don't choose to do so, that's o. k. too. WHATEVER you choose to do, make sure you're eating right and exercising daily!

Fighting obesity by using hoodia diet pills

Hoodia gordonii is a type of succulent plant that resembles a cactus, and is known to have suppress a person’s appetite and thus help with losing weight. It's sold in capsule form, and as a liquid or in tea form.


The hoodia cactus is found in the semi-deserts of Africa and grows in clumps of green stems. It usually takes five years before it can be harvested. From the twenty types of hoodia, only the gordonii variety has the appetite suppressant.


To the world, hoodia is a new discovery – but for the San Bushmen of the Kalahari desert, hoodia has long been part of their food. There really isn’t much published research on hoodia, but one study conducted at Brown University found that the hoodia’s steroidal glycosides fool the brain into thinking that there's an adequate supply of energy in the form of blood sugar, and therefore doesn’t doesn’t signal the body to eat.

After the buzz on hoodia, drug manufacturers claiming to sell genuine hoodia has congested the Internet. In fact, fake hoodia diet pills have been found found to contain sawdust, combined with roots of some unknown plants. So be very careful. Also, beware of companies who try to sell hoodia by claimimg that other hoodia products are inferior to their own – there have been no published reports indicating that one hoodia diet pill product is more effective than the rest.


Hoodia diet pills are effective, but expensive


Hoodia diet pills are expensive for the reasons mentioned above – it usually takes five years before a hoodia plant can be harvested, and it's only found in Africa. It's also quite difficult to grow; in addition to the required four to five years waiting time, it also requires very high temperatures to grow. This explains why it's so costly.


The proper dose of hoodia


Most companies put a standard recommended dose on the bottle, but there are also cases where people may need more (or less) than the recommended amount to achieve the desired effect. In fact, some people who are already using hoodia say that they need at least 1,200 milligrams per day to get the result that they want. It would be wise to consult your doctor regarding the correct dosage of hoodia, since factors like weight, diet, lifestyle and metabolism may have an effect on the size dosage that a person needs to take.

1) Believe in your Children. Assure your children that you are on their side and that you expect then to be the best person that they can be, although you don’t expect them to be the best at anything. No one is perfect.


2) Find other adults who believe in your children. Teachers, aunts, uncles, neighbors and friends can help you make a positive difference for you overweight child. Other adults that can see beyond the weight and also believe in your child can help your child take control of their lives.


3) Encourage your children to stay interested in activities. Let them know that their interests are valuable and deserve to be developed, whatever it is.


4) Celebrate your children’s winning experiences and help them to accept defeats graciously. Let your child know that you appreciate their efforts and positive attitude win or lose. Positive attitude and effort is for more important than victory.


5) Encourage upbeat conversations about the future. Assume they are going to college and thinking about good careers. Let your child know that you believe they are capable.


6) Be a role model for perseverance. Be sure your children hear you say that some tasks are difficult, but that you are not a quitter.


7) Facilitate family fun and laughter. A family that can joke, laugh, and lighten up their day’s with humor can help to prevent negativity and tension.

If you gain a pound, lose it! People who are successful at maintaining a weight loss weigh themselves at least twice a week. Pick regular times of day, and regular days of the week, to weigh and keep a chart. If you find you’re up a pound or two, follow a healthy and structured food plan until the extra weight comes off again.

Have planned snacks instead of grazing. To combat rampant, spontaneous snacking, plan a couple of balanced snacks every day that you can measure out and enjoy. Be sure to include some protein and complex carbohydrates in your snack. If you feed yourself a bit more frequently, you will be less likely to graze mindlessly.

Balance your treats with healthy choices. You can have an occasional treat, but you can also have an occasional healthy choice. Keep the treat small so that you don’t get a big sugar or unrefined carb rush. And if you must eat sugar or an unrefined carb, eat a little protein with it so that your blood sugar doesn’t crash and cause cravings for more of the same.

Admit your trigger foods and avoid them. All you have to do is look at certain foods and you know you’ll eat them. Don’t keep any snack foods in plain site around your house. Put them away. If you find yourself going to the cupboard or refrigerator to peruse the snack items, you’ll need to keep the trigger foods out of your house altogether.

Experiment and use the tools that work for you. Many dieters hate the act of writing down what they eat. Some dislike exercise. Others abhor weighing and measuring their food. Still others will not give up sugar and unrefined carbs. You need to be honest with yourself, though. These tools are proven to work. So, experiment with all the tools available to you and use the ones that work.

Weight regain is not inevitable, but you need to take action to avoid it. Apply these solutions to your life and you will find weight maintenance to be simple and satisfying.
