Betting strategies used in roulette

Depending on whether or not you're playing on an American or a European wheel, you're going to find that roulette is either a difficult game to win, or an easy one. Given that American wheels have added spaces to their wheel, it's much easier to win a bet on a European wheel, so seek them out if they're available. You'll be playing against a much lower house advantage, and this will make it easier to design a workable betting system. If you're not sure how to go about doing that, though, there are a few methods that people have found to be useful at the roulette table.

While people do follow certain betting methods at the roulette table, they are really based more on probability, not on the game itself. After all, roulette is a true game of chance, so strategizing only takes you so far. Still, you may find yourself a system that will make you comfortable when playing roulette, and that will take off a lot of the stress that games of chance can bring.

The most common method of betting in roulette is known as the "Martingale" system which first came about in France during the 18th century. In this system, you start off with a fixed bet; let's say $5, since that is a common minimum bet at roulette tables. You bet with this amount until you lost, at which point you double your bet continuously until you win. Once you do win, you will be betting enough to get back all the money you lost previously, and then some. Just make sure not to start off betting at the maximum, because you won't be able to double from there. There is also a system called the Anti-Martingale system where the gambler reduces the amount of a bet after a loss.

Progressive betting is also a fairly common system. You start off betting a fixed amount, and whenever you win you will increase your bet by that much. So if you start off betting $5 and win, your next bet will be $10. Win again, and it's $15. When you lose, subtract the initial amount and you'll have your next bet.

These are only a couple examples of betting techniques other roulette players use. Once you play enough, though, you're likely to develop your own strategy. Finding one that's comfortable for you will be the best thing you can do in the game.

Tigers keep winning and now get the yankees in motown

:
The Detroit Tigers won another series this past weekend at the hands of a division rival in Cleveland and continue to own the best record in the majors at 35-15, but now they get the acid test!

They are about to throw a week long party in their house at Comerica Park and they have invited some very raucous folks in the name of the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox.

Any team that considers themselves a worthy contender in the American League realizes that they will at some point have to dispose of the perennial American East champions. With all due respect to the defending World Series champion Chicago White Sox, the Yanks and BoSox are the enemy.

After a consistent performance in the 2005 MLB season, the Atlanta Braves are poised to make a strong showing in 2006. The Braves finished the 2005 regular season with a .556 win average, placing them at the top of the National League East, which is where they have been for 14 years in a row.

They are showing the signs after reeling off four straight road victories, including sweep at Wrigley Field. Yesterday they closed out their road trip by hitting eight homeruns and Bobby Cox just keeps on ticking.

El Duque returned to his former stomping grounds of Florida and got his first win as a New York Met and this could be a huge addition for Willy Randolph’s squad. Carlos Beltran is really on fire and Carlos Delgado will drive in a plethora of runs.

Randy Johnson could get ambushed today and you have to bet the pumped up Tigers as the 42-year-old Johnson (6-4, 5.89 ERA) has not had a quality start since limiting Baltimore to one run in eight innings of a victory April 23. In each of his last six outings, the southpaw has allowed at least four runs and seen his ERA rise more than two runs.

One of the reasons for Johnson's struggles have been first-inning problems. Opponents are hitting .378 (17-for-45) with four homers and 15 RBIs in the first inning of his 11 starts this season. In 2005, Johnson limited hitters to a .210 average (26-for-124) with three homers and 16 RBIs in 34 first-inning outings.

Johnson had a personal six-game winning streak against the Tigers end last season when he was outpitched by Jeremy Bonderman in a 10-2 loss July 1. Johnson, 8-7 lifetime versus Detroit, was reached for seven runs in five innings.

Bonderman (5-3, 4.57) is trying to win for the third time in four starts and also end his struggles at home. The right-hander is 1-3 with a 7.48 ERA in four starts at Comerica Park, but he is coming off a win Wednesday at Kansas City, where he gave up three runs and 10 hits in seven innings of a 6-3 win.

Bonderman is 2-2 with a 4.84 ERA in five starts and six lifetime appearances against New York.

New York won five of six games between the teams in 2005 and has won 22 of the last 29 since the middle of the 2001 season.

You would have to do a whole lot of research to find the last time Randy Johnson pitched against the Tigers and was listed as an underdog, as is the case today with Detroit -123.
Play the Tigers!

Fun at the live roulette table with french bets

One of the appealing features about the roulette table in casinos is the many different types of bet that you can make to keep the game varied and interesting. These bets can even vary from country to country, with certain types of bets allowed in the United States casinos and different types in European casinos.

For most, the roulette wheel can be an intimidating area of the casino. For this reason, many gamblers will stick with the well known types of bets that can be made directly on the table. However, if you want to impress the crowd that you are with on casino night, try calling a couple of French bets out to the dealer. French roulette bets are one of the variations that you can explore in many European casinos, and consist of a number of different types of bets that can add to the fun and excitement of the game.

You have to ask the dealer to place the French bets as they are on the wheel and not the table, and although they are generally not advertised in casinos, the dealer will know what to do. A lesser well known roulette bet is the French bet, the voisins du zero.

The term voisins du zero means "neighbors of zero." This is a nine chip bet that is placed as follows: two chips on zero, one chip on 4,7 split, one chip on 12,15 split, one chip on 18,21 split, one chip on 19,22 split, two chips on 25,26,28,29 corner, and one chip on 32,35 split. Your return will vary depending on the number that comes in on a voisins du zero roulette bet. This type of bet has a high chance of winning, at 45.9%. The house has an advantage of 2.703%.

Orphelins are another type of special bet you can place. The word orphelins means "orphans," and the bet consists of one chip placed on one, with eight orphans placed at four splits along the wheel. One chip is placed on 6,9 split, one on 14,17 split, one on 17,20 split and the last is on 31,34 split. With an orphelin roulette bet, you have a chance of winning exactly 24.7% of your bets.

Neighbors bets are very useful and a player should know how and when to use them. Here is an overview of two different Neighbors roulette bets. "Neighbors" bets are the numbers to the immediate left and right of a winning number on the roulette wheel. The XX and the Neighbors is a bet where you pick a number on the wheel and it covers the two numbers either side of it on the wheel, this usually requires 5 chips for each number as you are covering 5 pockets. So the next time you find yourself in a European casino, staring at the wheel, try something different and test out a French roulette bet, they may not increase your odds of winning, but they will make you look like a seasoned gambler and your friends are sure to be impressed with your knowledge of the game.
